It worked! Enter Abby (stage right)
My sister gave birth to a 7lb 2oz baby ... GIRL!!! Yay! I think everyone's basically ecstatic that it's a girl. As my brother so eloquently stated, "No more stinky boys ..."
It happened Friday night at around 7:30. I went straight to her house after work to help my cousin with the boys. My mom called from the hospital to tell us the news. Then, I called my brother to tell him the good news, but from the noise on the other end, I could tell that he was out and about, so I just told him that Berna had the baby and that it was a girl. Todd came home at around 10 but went back to the hospital to stay with Bernie overnight, so I slept over at my sister's in the bottom bunk in Ben's room with Ben. My mom came and slept with Matt in the big bed. Then, of course, Matthew wakes up crying at like 7 am on Saturday and won't stop. I can hear him wailing; so I get up groggily from bed and take him from my mom and walk around half-asleep with his little baby head against my shoulder till he stops. Then I put him in the bed with Jam-Jam and even though baby's not sleeping, he seems content watching his big brother sleep. 'Finally,' I think, and squish in beside Matt with my back pressed rather uncomfortably against the ladder so that Matt doesn't roll off. I'm dozing a little, when baby starts poking Ben's face -- which of course makes Ben wake up. Ben tells baby he's still sleepy and we should sleep a little more (yay!), but Matt doesn't listen (boo!), so we all end up getting up and watching SpongeBob on DVD.
After breakfast at Denny's and relocating to my house, I fall asleep around 2ish on the couch with Ben (still watching SpongeBob) and wake up to baby and his daddy playing. I play with them for a little while and then ask how Bernie is and Todd says I should go see her. Sounds like a good idea, so I shower, change, and drive over to the hospital.
When I get there, I ask for Bernadette Lee, and the nurses direct me to her room. I knock a little and then push the door open and the lady in the bed ... is NOT my sister. Confused, I stare at her for a little while (probably longer than is polite) hoping that her features will rearrange themselves in such a way that I will recognize her as my sister. No luck. I peer around the door into the room to see if maybe there are two beds in a room. Nope, just one. Sheepishly, I ask the lady and the two elderly folks (I assume her parents) if her name is Lee. Yep. I apologize profusely, explain that my sister's name is also Lee, and back out of the room. I turn back to the nurses station and look uncertainly (and a little suspiciously) at them and ask again for Bernadette Lee. They point me to a different department. As I'm signing in for the correct area, the security guard tries to convince me that my sister must still be having the baby (for some reason, her room is in Labor and Delivery and not Maternity). I emphatically tell him that I know my sister has already had the baby. He looks at me doubtfully, and I'm getting a little irritated with the hospital staff, but he directs me toward the rooms and I find 3104. I push the door open hesitantly and breathe a sigh of relief. It's my sister. And a pink lump also known as Abigail Elizabeth Lee. She still looks semi alien-like (as most newborns do) but she's cute coz she's so small.
They were letting my sister go home at around 8 pm, so I stayed with her until then. Ben and Todd came in around 7:30, and we all sat around waiting for the nurse. After a bit of a delay because of some mix-up, they finally discharge my sister at around 9:30. Then of course everyone went over to my Bernie's house to see the new baby. We finally left around 11:45 pm. I am friggin TIRED.
Funniest/cutest thing I heard today: (Ben to Matt), "Baby ( meaning Matt), baby's (meaning Abigail) depending on you."
Funniest/cutest thing I saw today: Matt staring at Abigail with this blank look on his face trying to figure out what/who the heck she is.
